Default Radio install

hey guys, i did a search on installing an aftermarket radio in my dodge ram. i got most of my questions answered except for two that i was hoping you guys could clarify. when pulling out that dash piece that covers the radio, some people said that all they had to do was take of the screw by the hook on the passenger side and pull it out. other people said that they had to remove the piece under the steering column to access another screw before they could pull the dash out. i have a 2002 ram. my question is that does my model year require me to only take out the one screw by the hook or do i need to remove that piece under the steering column as well? also, i heard that with on aftermarket deck on some year rams, not all of the speakers work. i have the infinity sound system in my ram. will all my speakers play or will some of them be cut out? thanks.

You have the grocery hook screw only. Remove that screw, and pull the bezel off. There are spring clips with felt tape on them that prevent rattles holding this bezel on.

most likely not.The Infinity has its own amp behind the glove box and its not compatable with aftermarket head units. So you have 2 choices,1) wire around the factory amp or 2)check around for a wire harness adaptor to wire around the amp.Crutchfield should be able to supply you with one of these.I havent checked in a while, but last time I did, they told me one was on the way soon,

I just wired around mine and went with 4 speakers

Connections:

Notes: You'll need to connect the receiver's ground wire to either the braided strap inside the dash, or to the ground wire, or you may need to make a new ground connection to your car's chassis. On some vehicles, you may have a common ground. If so, the speaker negatives are electrically the same for the left and right side speakers. Most aftermarket receivers (and all that Crutchfield sells) will need an additional adapter, or you may run new speaker wires from your receiver to the speakers - see "Accessories" for speaker wire.

Infinity Sound System Notes: If your vehicle has the Infinity system, you'll connect the blue wire from the Crutchfield harness to the amp remote wire from the new receiver. There also may be a second wire, usually green/black, attached to the factory radio chassis with the braided strap. If so, this is the ground for the Infinity amplifier(s), and it must be attached to the braided strap and the replacement receiver's ground wire.

12V constant power
12V switched power
power antenna turn-on
dimmer
left front speaker +/-
right front speaker +/-
left rear speaker +/-
right rear speaker +/-
i copied that from crutchfield. do i need that addictional adapter that they are talking about or do i just connect the amp to the new radio? id rather not have to run new speaker wires. thanks
