Default low fuel question

hey guys its me with my retarted questions again.

last night i raced a guy who i thought for totally sure i was going to beat. I ran on 1/16 of a tank cus i thought at first that the less fuel you have the less weight is on the truck and the faster you can go. well anyway he was revving up and i didnt i just smiled and looked on and thought to myself "this one's in the bag". needless to say I GOT SPANKED! and the bad part is, i beat him before.

now i went this morning to go fill my gas up (and i know you fellow dodge owners knows what this feels like when you first crank up your motor in the morning and the performance feels really sluggish until it finally gets warm) well it felt that way the whole time towards the gas station 3 miles away (even while the thermostat showed it at full warmth). as soon as i filled up, my truck was its old self again and it took off like a rocket (as usual).

so that made me wonder... does the ram have some stupid aggravating option on it that makes your truck performance sluggish when your gas gets low so you can save gas?

if that is true then thats the reason i lost last night (at 1 in the morning and being that i was so tired i didn't pay too much attention to the way my truck drove which is why im confused about losing so bad.)

thanks guys

couple of thing here... your pump should be consistant in pressure regardless of fuel level, if it's not you have a problem. next you can try this experiment... you may be able to tell the difference but it's there for sure, (I know because I had a technical problem solved by cooling my fuel...)... run your tank down low 1/8 or so and leave it parked in the sun so the truck will get heat soaked... including the gas in the tank. gas temperatures will rise as the truck heats up over a long period of time so it's best to do this towards the end of the day... take it out onto a long stretch and do a butt dyno run, then go fill it up and do the same run. I'll bet you'll notice more mid-range power right away.

what your doing is reducing your fuel temp before it gets injected into the cylinder... this is done by pumping the cold fuel out of
the ground into your tank... this only works on fillup because the cooled fuel will eventually heat up and stabilize in temperature. the net result is better low to mid range power.

How do I know? I had to figure out a way to make my bmw 325is NOT ping on 91 octane fuel when the chip I was using was setup for 93 octane fuel AND make it work on 100~105 deg days in the heat of Sacramento. I figured that cooling the fuel will make it slightly denser prior to injection which would (in my mind) make it slightly richer. bottom line is I ended up insulating the air filter as much as I could to keep the engine compartment heat out, wrapped the fuel rails with insulation tape and added a fuel cooler. this allowed me to run 91 when 93 was needed and it was tested with a full load in the car and outside temps over 105... absolutely no ping detected and the car ran like a bat outa hell.

I added this to my Ram and it gave me 6% better fuel economy on top of the power...

HTH...

Default RE: low fuel question

My 94 ram with 5.2 L did something like that would not have no power under 1/4 tank ended up droping gas tank and took out the fuelpump asmbly and there is a big filter right on the bottom of it looks like a airfilter almost. It was so cloged up no gas could get through it at all but there is a straw sticking out of the filter sticking upward to about the 1/4 tank level, so as soon as gas got below that straw pump would lose its presure and truck would act like it was running out of gas soon as i filled it above 1/4 tank it would run fine before i changed everything out . anyways had to buy a hole new fuelpump asmbey could not find that filter anywere think it was like 200 buck for it hope these new ram are not the same if they are the setup sucks as you can not change any of the fuel filters becouse there all in the tank.
