Default Headlight problem

Hey everyone,

I'm having trouble with my headlights. Whenever I hit the highbeams and then go back to the low the low don't come on right away. I have to "jiggle" the handle to make them come back on. I have also been driving and had the lights blink on and off. Any ideas what I should check?

Are you still having that problem? If so, and have not replaced the multi-function switch yet, try disconnecting the battery cables, loosening the trim around your steering column, ( be very careful -airbag) and spray some electrical contact cleaner in and around your switch (blinker, high beam, etc. switch). Let dry for a few hours, and put everything back together. I did this on my '99, was having the same problem and have not had any trouble since.May be especially dirty if you live ina dusty area or like to ride with the windows down! This may not fix the problem, but is worth a try opposed to a 60 dollar part. (No offense ,Dodgegirl19).

Something that you might not like. I have a 96 slt with 182000 miles. i love my truck and wouldn't trade it for the world, but it has the same problem. If you will take the panels off and look at the switch you will see that the wires have started to melt in two. i have replaced six of the multifunction switches since 97 and need another now. As it seems that everyone in my area cant drive there are plenty of wrecked dodges and i normally pay about $20.00 a switch at a junk yard. You may have to replace some of the wire, if you do be very careful to cut the wire right at the switch as there is not very much and you will need to splice more later. careful or you might go up in flames. Dodge will not acknowledgs this problem of wiring though they have always had problems with wiring. Good luck

Default Headlight problem

Finally found a place whereI don't feel like a misfit. I have the same problem with my 96 slt. In addition, the dash lights on the odometer sometimes do not come on when I turn the headlights on. Is this the same type switch?

the dash lights on the odometer may be loose. have you checked them. It is really not a hard job to check just don't force the parts off, they will come off with a little tlc.

Default RE: Headlight problem

this is an old thread but seemed to be closest to the problem I'm having.

I have a Ram 1500 Conversion Van - yr 2000.

My LoBeams won't come on at all. HiBeams work fine. I have jiggled the switch. I can't find a fuse for the headlights. Is there one? How is that circuit protected?

Also while checking each fuse I saw 2 black relays to the left of the fuse block area. The top one seemd very warm to the touch. I swapped them and the same position still got hot.

Thanks,
BilgeRat

You might have a problem with a fuse. On my dads old 98' Jeep which I almost got but thankfully I didn't, on night in Wisconsin, our entire dash, taillights, and our headlights, all didnt work. Only when you turn the turn signal on, then everything blinked, the dash, headlights, tail, everything turned on and off with the turn signals, When we finally got to a gas station, we found that a fuse had blown out. So maybe check your fuses, our problem was one under the hood. My .02 cents

My 01 Sport does the same thing, as well as my father's 94. Curiousity's sake, quite some time ago I receieved a recal notice for electrical components under the steering column. Anyone know if this could be related, or what that notice was actually for? I kinda lost the notice, and subsequently never got it taken care of like I should have.
