Default Chips

Can anyone explain how the chips actually work and what all they can do for an 05' Ram 1500? I hear almost everyone talk about them and I was just wondering if anyone could actually explain what they are/what they do or can do/and how easy they are to use considering Ive never used one

Most people use the Superchips programmer, at least for the HEMI. What it does is removes the OEM program and installs their own software that they have developed to maximize the efficiency of the engine for power and or gas consumption. Dodge is restricted to what they can do by insurance regs and DOT regs. You will have a positive experience with the upgrage and I think its worth it. Even if they are costly. Nicer shifts, a little more power and in some cases better fuel efficiency can be expected.

I was going to ask this question also. Besides the programmer, does anyone like Jet, Superchips, etc. make just the chip for the '06 Hemi? I've seen some knock-offs on Ebay but wouldn't dare.

no, what it does is save the stock programing and vin of the first truck and does nothing for the second truck, it will only work on one truck, also you can return the first one to stock and use the programmer on anther truck

...have you ever jumped on the pedal and feel the power of the hemi as it wound up the rpm band...only to change gears before it gets into the powerband...that's our infamous Torque Management....if it only was for one thing, being able to change shift points to get the most torque before gear shifts...than Superchips is more than worth the money...but it does soo much more...I absolutely love mine...i feel like i'm gettin into a new truck every day... may explain why I have over 50K miles on my truck that is barely 14 months old...
