Switch from F250 to 3500SLT?
Hello all. I have a 2004 F250 Lariat powersrtoke 4x4 and am considering a 2006 SLT 3500 4x4 cummins mega cab. At first I wasn't to thrilled about the mega cab. However, there is tons of room and the look is really starting to grow on me. The truck has the in-dash compass and sunroof and a few other really nice features. No leather or DVD player.
Can anyone give me some opinions on the 3500? What type of mileage are some of you seeing from this new truck? Seems I have heard nothing but good things from publications but not a lot from actual owners. They are offering it at $11m trade difference which seems pretty reasonable to me, a LOT better than Ford is willing to do at $17m.
Thanks a lot. If I do the deal tomorrow you all will be seeing much more of me!

If your Ford is 100% trouble free, keep the Ford. the only people that are going to enjoy the mega cab is every one but your self, most likely your going to driving the truck, not sitting in the back, also the mega cab dose not come in a 8 ft box, if you have kids you want to keep happy and your not driving the F-250/F-350 crew cab, than thiers nothing wrong with a mega cab..
My dad has a 2006 Lariat F-350 crew cab dully ( bigger than the dodge quad cabs ) with the 6.0 and that is a power house, I'm not trying to get into a 6.0 vers 5.9 debate, but over the long haul dodge has stayed with the 5.9, Ford had the 7.3 for a few years, than the 6.0 and For 07 I have heard Ford has a new dessiel engine in the works..
i have an 05 quad cab (not mega) 3500 single rear wheel, laramie, auto, w/cummins. getting 16.5 mpg average w/ 410 gears and 35" tires. i love this truck. have no problems yet. but it only has 10000 miles. wish it had 5 speed auto like the ford but with the banks goodies i have more power than i need. well unless i'm playing. banks goodies include monster exhaust, six gun and speed loader, high ram intake and the k & n intake and filter. fun fun fun. i can tell you a friend of mine traded his dodge ram 3500 cab and chassis truck for a f350 and he says the dodge pulled better than the ford at low speed. once you got the weight moving the f350 is fine. bottom line is all three make good trucks. ( if you throw in gm ). you can find people that like and hate all three. your the one that has to pay for it so buy what feels good to you. and youll be happy. if you service your own vehicles open the hoods and how clean and uncluttered the dodge is. 33 percent fewer moving parts. anyway enjoy your new truck what ever it is.
Thank you for the information. I have not had much trouble with my 04'. The latest recall fixed a surging problem that I was having but it also made it louder, about as loud as my 7.3 was.
I am going over today to take another look. Since the dealership is closed I can take my time and campare apples to apples. As you can tell I still have not decided yet but want to have a decision by Monday. I have found all of the rebates that I can find, have financing, etc; so it is time to figure out what I want to do.

Gotta' go out and have a play in the Dodge if the dealership will let you.
A test drive will definately help to make your mind up.
I usually find that within the first few miles of driving a vehicle, I know if I like it or not.
