stange noise in front end?
I wanted to see if anyone can help identify what I'm hearing. From a standing acceleration I hear what sounds like a tuning fork noise for a second then it stops. I think its coming from my front end but I'm not 100%. It's not a grinding noise rather almost a metal on metal vibration?
I'm no expert so I want to bring it in to my dealer but I want to sound intelligent when I call them to tell them whats going on. I tired searching on the board but nothing sounded like what was going on with my 2005 QC 1500.
Any ideas?

Just give them a good description of what area you think its comming from, when it makes the noise, and if you have any previous work done.
I would suggest the same thing, but also add to do a test drive with the mechanic so you both can be on the same page. This will hopefully eliminate the "No problem found" message on the worksheet when you go to pick it up.
I'm still working on my left hand turn vibration in the steering. I'm on the second PS pump and it hasn't helped a bit. I went to go bring it in a third time, but I got the "Gotta let it bleed, if it is still doing it after 100 miles, bring it back in" Well, I'm at 140 miles after the 2nd new PS pump and it is still occuring. Besides, it was supposed to be bled with a vacuum before it left. I wonder what they would say if I'd print it up out of the FSM and ask why it wasn't bled all the way? Oh well, hopefully they will order a R&P and swap it out. That has been my suspicion after the first PS pump replacement didn't fix the problem. I guess we'll see. Good luck with your problem.

I have a 05 standard cab 5.7, and I have a starnge noise under the hood also. Mine sounds kinda like a plasic rubbing against metal sound. It sucks very bad. Noone has been able (yet) to indentify it. The dealer naturally could not here anything when I brought it up there. Trk has to be driving for awhile before it starts.
One thing that i noticed is that if I pop the hood, the noise goes away. Try this and see if it works. I have looked everywhere to find what it is, but havent yet. Hood is tight also. I'm gonna take the Mopar CAI heat shield off this w/e and see if that may be the culprit. Only thing I can do is start taking **** apart I guess.
Anyone ever hear of this??
And let me know if it stops if you unlatch the hood?

The problem is, it's not at all constant. Only when I start from a dead stop and only for a split second. It doesn't happen all the time either.
I'll poke around this weekend but I don't really know what I'm looking at.

CVE,
Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I think I have the same noise from mine. It sounds like someone blowing across the top of a glass bottle for a split second. Real loud and very short. Only from a dead stop, and not all the time. I didn't mean to steal this thread, but I'm very concerned about this.

I have the same problem. Sounds like a rubbing almost grinding sound when i take off from a stop or go to back out of a parking space. My fuel mileage has also dropped significantly. D'Ambrosio Dodge in Downingtown, Pa told me my front tires were out of balance. Guess what, it still makes the sound. Cant believe they didn't hear it. Lemme know if you find out what it is.
