Sweet! Thanks for all the responses!
Sounds like most people are pulling with the 3.92's
except mattwilliams17 and silver eagle with 3.55's
and even they seem to be towing fine.
I figured I'd be fine, I'm quite an experienced tower...
just not an experienced dodge owner.
This is the first dodge I've owned.
My brother inlaw just sold his 98 reg cab ram
and said it was a guttless wonder that couldn't
pull his boat... So I must say It got me a little
curious as to what everyone else had to say!

I have 04 QC 4X4 with 3.92 gears and the 5.7 Hemi. I tow a 21ft. tow hauler and have probably exceeded 8600lbs a couple times and it tows fine. This is up and down 6% grades. If I were to tow regularly I'd get a diesel. The shift points suck and there is no way to drop it into 3rd gear and keep it there. I've used the SuperChip programmer for towing and it helps. I tow about 8 times a year on less then 3 hour trips.

That tow rating definatly sounds low. When I bought my 2004 QC Hemi 1500 the sales booklet thingy said 9200# tow capacity. I have pulled a 2000# trailer with a 3600# race car and probably another 1000#+ of tools and spare parts from Conway, AR to Harrison, AR. It is up a mountain (Just barley big enough to be a mountain but some good pulls none the less) the whole way. I set the cruise at 70 and there wasn't a hill between here and there I couldn't have accellerated up. Hell it barley downshifted unless I slowed for a curve. I later pulled a 23' camper I am guessing around 5000# on interstate and the truck worked a lot harder pulling something that was lighter with more arrow drag then the heavy race car and trailer.
I work as a boat mechanic for a local dealer. I tow quite often pulling up to a 27 ft boat (open bow) will not tow anything bigger, but does really good. I have factory 20's on it still.
well, the wife and I bought a 27 ft trailer, and it weighs7600 lbs, and by the time I load up Im sure Im 8500 or 8600, I've never hit the scales, maybe more than that, and my hemi pulls
like a son of a b***h!
No disappointments what so ever! Im loving the manual trans! I can't even tell you how nice it is in a 6 speed manual to have a gear for every situation!!!
I've come down (and up) some canyons that are steeper than an SOB and in my automatic fords I was always just a bit on edge... but in the Dodge? No sweat![sm=wootwoot.gif]

I have towed in the 7,000 - 9,000 lbs range quite often (27ft. camper trailer, dual axle enclosed trailer, car hauler, etc.). When you get that high up, my truck starts to lack some acceleration and may struggle up hills (4.7L), but it will get the job done. Just make sure you have good trailer brakes. The Dodge could stop a heavy trailer but it's not too timely and will cause the brake discs to warp. If you accelerate at a controlled pace and use the tow/haul button properly it's not bad at all. If you try to pass someone, expect to hear some full throttle complaining.
I towed 6,000 lbs from CA to TX (1800 miles in 3 days) shortly after I bought my truck and it did great. Made it up the grapevine (if you're familiar with that) without any problems.
