RE: P0442
well from the tech at dodge: the gas cap and rubber vent hoses are supposed to seal, if they dont the pressurization change is registered and reads as a leak. so first make sure your gas cap is on good. clear the code and see if it works. if not check the hoses then spend the 15 bucks and get a new gas cap. took me about 3 minutes and the code is gone. for some reason my rubber o-ring around the gas cap was torn a bit.

RE: P0442
I replaced my gas cap which I got directly from the dodge dealer and still get the errors P0442 & P0455, where are these hoses at? I've had is checked many times only to have my check engine light come on over and over again.
Is it easier to have these hoses replaced doing it myself or what?

I could not tell you what each hose is for in trucks these days but I had an '02 dakota with the 3.9 when I ran into some of the same trouble. I had a friend who worked at Auto Zone and he said just check each hose for a cut or something which might be causing a leak. I did what he said and sure enough found two hoses with cuts in them. I replaced them both for under $5 and theengine light went off. In other words, do some detective work and inspect all your hoses.
