Cheesy Ebay CAI
I am not siding with anyone in this tread because saying one intake is better than another is like saying Chocolate Ice Cream is the best (even though it is). Someone is always going to have another opinion.
I think the powdercoated intake looks awesome! As far as the chrome Ebay intakes go, If you wrap/insulate any of these the results could only get better.
Here are somethings I have Questions about these statements:
1.1 Steel 3 1/2" pipe that is 1/8" thick costs $100
Q? How long of a lenth of pipe is that? How long is the pipe you are selling?
2.Yes, that would definately be a plus. Some of that powder can cost as much as $150-200 for a lb!
Q?Does it take a whole pound to coat a pipe?
semo03hemiram: Have you considered building a heat shield on it?
With this being said I do thing these companys like K&N, aFe, Fram are out of thier minds for charging $200+ but they wouldn't sell if people didn't buy them.
semo03hemiram Keep up the nice work, Very smooth lookin'.

Just curious here - did you dyno it with different brand intake systems?? See, if I was an idiot with too much money like I was called, which I don't think I deserved, I would purchase one of every intake system I could find and dyno them in a warehouse with controlled temperatures, and find out exactly what each one did.
I didn't post on here to be verbally assaulted. I was just offering an option to the members on here. My system was designed to be nice looking and perform. Not do just one or the other.
i have a "cheap ebay intake" on several of my vehicles and there is no power difference over the high priced powder coated models...

second, no, i didnt dyno my daily driver to ensure how little my cold air intake did...however, there have been people who have unlimited access to a dyno, who have gone to the trouble to dyno something like AEMs nice color matched intake compared to a 70 dollar ebay special, and while there have been increases in performance, they were minimal. like someone said above, i would rather pay 100 bucks for 8hp then pay 350 bucks for 10hp.
Thank you very much QuadCabHemi. Now let me answer your questions.
Here are somethings I have Questions about these statements:
1.1 Steel 3 1/2" pipe that is 1/8" thick costs $100

The pipe is 42" LONG

Q?Does it take a whole pound to coat a pipe?
It takes about 1/2 lb to coat one pipe.
3.semo03hemiram: Have you considered building a heat shield on it?
Yes I have, but I am still debating as to how to make one. I have thought about one that mounts around the filter itself for ease of installation. They cost about $20 each. I also thought about building a box around it, but that will be making the assumtion that most people could install it correctly. Have to make them "idiot proof" as someone told me before. But it is definatley a thought.

They sell because they don't have much competition. Mine is cheaper than theirs, looks better, and performs just as well. Maybe it is the steel pipe that is turning people off on it, but personally I would rather have something that is nice and thick and sturdy than something thin and flimsy. Just MY opinion.

Thanks again QuadCabHemi. Hope I answered your questions for you.

Not doubting your word one bit, but my intake added 10 hp to the rear wheels.
Actually, if the pipe is insulated it will hold in heat more heat than it will keep out, the best way to go is plastic, it doesnt hold as much heat. I ordered a cheap chrome intake off ebay, we will see how it is when it gets here, i might have to modify it a little to be satisfactory.
and youre saying that because yours is thicker metal, it is guaranteed to make more horsepower than an intake of the exact same deisgn, minus the powdercoating? then why not do what i did with the RT, and buy heat insulation wrap that keeps out heat almost completely?
and either way, the minimal amount of power gained in a stock naturally aspirated vehicle isnt worth arguing over..most people buy CAIs because they look nicer and add a slight amount of power for the price. for the price of some intakes, i could get a little chrome bottle that would add ten times what your intake will..

I think that would probably work good on there too, but I was going for looks and performance, not just performance. I don't think an intake all wrapped up with insulation wrap would look very nice at a car show. It might increase the horsepower slightly. I will check into that later. I am also going to see if they can make it out of aluminum tubing instead of steel, but I am sure that would be a lot more expensive.
I am in the process right now of designing a new intake system for the Srt-10 hooded Hemi's and 4.7L.

i just dont see how it can cost so much...the intake for my stratus has got to be at least 5 feet long from end to end, and it comes with a MAFS adapter, which is also aluminum...my kit did come with a cheap filter which i replaced with a K&N, and with silicone couplers, the piping, the adapter, the clamps, and the filter, it only cost me around 100 bucks...give or take.
