What’s your mileage change intervals w/ Synthetic oil
Hey all
I know that you can go 5000 plus miles with synthetic oils but what mileage are any of you going to with them?? Is there bad point to wait to change I don't mean 10,000 miles pluse but there is the new Mobil One on the market that claims 15,000 miles wow! But the price is high too.

Is your truck under warranty? If it is and I was in your shoes Id just keep doing every 3,000 like the maintenance guide says otherwise if you go over by to many miles it might be grounds to reject your warranty should anything go wrong
I change mine at 6000 miles never had a problem.
Which works out to every 6 weeks on average.
I just bought my 06 end of april and already have 21000 miles on it.
Previous 04 ram had 90,000 miles using the same intervals for oil changes with no problems in 1 1/2 years.
I had been using Mobil one for years but recently switched to Pennzoil Platinum because its cheaper.

Okay here's the deal and you can agree or disagree with my opinion.
First off I'd like to think I know a little about this. Not patting myself on the back but just let me finish before throwing zingers my way.
First off, oils today are so much better than they were as little as 10 years ago. I have been in aviation maintenance since 1979. Turbine engines and reciprocating specialist was my field. I've worked as a advisor with Garrett, Pratt and Whitney, Advco Lycoming, and Rolls Royce, both APU's and commercial/corporate power plants. I served on the Miss Budweiser racing team for 4 years. (I was the one of key players in helping develop the starter system for the Roll-Royce Griffon engine).
IMO, synthetic is the way to go with the 5.7 HEMI. Mobile One Extended 15,000 is what I use. I change my oil every 8,500 to 10,000 miles.
This is my second Ram HEMI, my first was a 2004 model which I traded in around March of this year. The 2004 had close to 80,000 miles and I used Mobile One Extended 15,000 miles oil and change it at the same intervals.
I had a compression check done 1 monthly before I sold it and the specs were that of a new HEMI! The secret here is to buy a good quality filter, even a double filter system if you prefer.
Guys, the 3000 mile rule was put out by the oil companies long before most of you were born and only to sell the product. Even back then petroleum based was the only thing available to us simpletons.
True, some synthetics might be better than Mobile One but if you pay the difference you’ll just be wasting your money. Sort of like putting 93 Octane in your HEMI. It doesn’t need it and doesn’t run any better, in some cases worse.
Take it from someone that has been there and has done the test. Mobile One Extended 15,000 Miles and change it about every 8,500 to 10,000 miles. Spend the extra on a good filter or better yet, change the filter at 5,000 miles or rig a double filter system.
You’ll come out ahead in you pocket book and do your engine better than changing the conventional petroleum base oil every 3,000 miles.
Hey, don’t take my word for it. Do it for yourself and send in a sample to a lab after 8,500 miles. I‘ll bet anyone in here any amount they desire the results will be the oil is good!
Just trying to help :-)
H.H. ~been there done that~

I only use Mobil 1 full synthetic, every 5000 miles. They make a special filter for full synthetic, if you hold them both up together, the full synthetic filter is heavier than a cheap one. They have it at Mobil 1 lube shops.
Thanks for all the replies from everyone.
I currently use Castrol Syntec Blend 5W-30 with a Fram Double guard Filter, but I want to go to the Castrol or Mobil 1 full synthetic. We don't drive it that much because we live on post, I take the Geo (really just a re-badged Toyota Corolla) for all the daily trips and short runs mostly. I guess I need to go synthetic in that too.

I run Mobil 1 100% synthetic and change between 3-5k miles. I am sure the oil is still good, but I like knowing that the oil is clean, plus If I let it go, I would just feel bad for the truck. Yes, I am pathetic I know. But it is my truck, and damnit I will change the oil as often as I want! lol...
