yet another exhaust thread
I'm really wanting to put duals on my '03 1500 SWB w/ the 4.7L engine. I've heard alot of good things about the Flowmaster 50 series SUV muffler. Any advice on how that would work on my truck. I don't want to wake up the neighborhood when I leave for work early every morning, but would like a strong, clean sound when I accelerate.
Also, I've heard that dual exhaust can cause Dodge trucks to kick out of OD when the cruise is set? I've only heard this from one person so I'm thinking maybe he put the wrong system on his truck. I paln on adding a cold air intake soon, more than likely before the exhaust is installed.
Thanks for any help/advice.

i had the 40 series on my 04 4.7. It was loud!!!!! The best way to tell is have the shop just tac up the muffler and then start the truck. If its to loud, just have them go to the next one.
Keep in mind, the only difference between single out and dual out is the sound, not the performance. Dual out will just be a bit louder.
I never had the problem of my OD dropping in cruise control either. Except when going up a hill.

If you put an h or x in your dual it will help keep it quiet and give it better performance. I want to put a 2 1/2" dual with the x pipe on my hemi but I can only find single exhaust without going with a custom setup. I don't want to do that because no one around here has a mandral bender.
I work with someone who does exhaust so a custom set-up isn't entirely out of the question. Where does the H or X pipe go? In front of or behind the exhaust as you are coming from the motor? I've been looking at mainly single-in, dual-out mufflers. Thanks for the replies btw.
I've got the 50 series SUV on my 04 4.7L. And I think it sounds nice. It doesn't wake the neighboorhood up when I leave for work in the morning. I also have a K&N CAI under the hood. It's got a pretty nice rumble to it. And when it's idling, you can hardly even hear it. IMHO it's perfect.
Hard to say where it goes but you would want it between the manifold and muffler. If you were to get super technical about it you would use a Dyno and experiment with the exact location. Ideally you want it so the left exhaust pulse is in the intersection just before the right exhaust valve opens so that when the valve opens your right header will be under a vacuum and will scavenge the extra exhaust out of the cylinder. That’s simplified greatly and I hope I worded it the way I intended. Even if you don't hit the sweet spot you will improve scavenging with either type, though I prefer the x as it does a better job. I can't speak from experience but I have heard that an H will be quieter than an x.
From digging through the threads, I've about decided on this muffler, still have to talk with the guy that I plan on doing my exhaust and see what he thinks, any extra info/advice?
Thanks for all the help so far.
