Trailer light problem
Hello,
I recently found that the behind the bumper plug for my trailer lights was coroded and I was not getting power to the outlet. I cut and spliced the individual wires from the truck to the outlet(getting rid of the plug & play hook up). When I connect the black adapter to the outlet, I'm getting power, however when I'm hooked up to the trailer, I'm not getting night time running lights on the trailer. Anything I could be overlooking? I'm getting perdy frusterated!
Thanks

I can understand your frustrations. To start with, chack to make sure that you are getting power to the lights on the trailer by using a voltmeter, then trace the wires back.
Common problems are pinched wires grounding out on the frame of the trailer and bad grounding wires. Just start at the back and work your way to the front if you know the power at the plug in is good.

Thanks Osteo, I guess what I'm wondering though is there any way I can tell if the problem is in my truck?
Like I said earlier, I am getting power to the plug and everything else works, but I'm not getting the night time running lights.

The lighting systems on the new Dodges, 3rd gen, are very picky.
If you have a high resistance in one of the ciruits due to corrosion etc, you can get all sorts of problems.
As Osteodoc08 said, If your getting power to your tuck plug, work from the back of your trailer forward, checking all the connections and wires etc for good contacts and no pinched or shorted wires.
Bad earths are typical of giving problems in trailers etc.
Clean any and all contacts up, working logically forward and this should help.
It's slow, but you will get a result.
