Default 2006 Hemi Exhaust

Guys & Gals,

Thought I would share a little information I received today.

I was looking to improve the sound and flow of the exhaust system on my 2006 QC with Hemi. So I called Flowmaster's Tech line (I live about an hour away from them) and spoke with a guy there about what I wanted to do. He told me that Dodge did their homework with the "stock exhaust" system and that it is the "best flowing system" while maintaining low interior/exterior sound levels. He stated that Flowmaster was unable to match the stock systems sound levels while improving exhaust flow. If I just wanted a louder exhaust level I could go to a Series 50 HD muffler. Interior noise level would be unknown until it was installed and tried out. No improvement on exhaust flow would be realized.

I've had good luck with Flowmaster's 50 series mufflers on my '95 Impala SS and my '97 GMC. Showing gains in performance and mileage. Sound levels on these vehicles is perfect!

So I will stay with my stock exhaust that I had slightly modified by having the rear resonator removed and a new tail pipe with polished stainless steel exhaust tip installed. Looks good and sounds a little healthier as well.

Hope this information is useful to someone else out there in Dodge country.

I got a throatier sound by removing the rear resonator, but only when you push on the loud pedal. Otherwise its quiet, allowing me to listen to the radio/cd/Sirius or talk at a normal level. It works for me.

Did you notice any significant increase in fuel mileage? My dealer claims 3-5 mpg if I do a magnaflow cat-back and a K&N series 77 cold air intake... However, I don't want to sacrifice how incredibly quiet my truck is on the highway.

I have a loud motorcycle - I dont need a loud truck

I would really like to have a more aggressive sound, not loud but something better than the quiet stock sound. Some have suggested the flowmaster 50 series or maybe the delta 50 but what I'm afraid of is what it might sound like when the HEMI is running on 4 cylinders. 2006 Hemi is variable displacement and runs on 4 cylinders much of the time. I know what a four banger sounds like with an exhaust and that is definitely not the sound I want out of a 345 hp HEMI! 2005 and earlier model wouldn't have this issue but the 2006 might.
