If you have some r-22 around, You could easily put a static charge in the system, then find the leak and repair it. If you start pulling a vacuum now, with the leak still there, you will be pulling in air and moisture. The oil in your system is a PAG oil which is hygroscopic.
It absorbs moisture, and requires a deep, long vac to remove. You can't even hope to achieve the vac you need if there is a leak, even a small one will kill your system. Once moisture combines with the oil, and the heat generated from the compressor will create hydroflouric acid. One of the constituent chemicals in r-134a is fluorine. Get it fixed first, It will save you tons of money in the long run. If you know how to fix it yourself, and need parts, there is a GREAT dealer out of Phoenix that be of great help.
Google for "ackits" and it should take you right there.

As far as the charge, I don't know. but a phone call to your local dealer can get that info for you.

I wouldn't put dye in anything, not even an enemy's system, not good stuff. If it was good the manufacturer would put it in from the get go. Do what "gone fishn" says and you can't go wrong!
Should be a tag under the hood with the weight of the charge on it.
P.S. it's called 134a,at first when I saw you post title I had no clue what you wanted to say.
