Exhaust Questions...Please advise
Had my magnaflow exhaust for a year now... and yesterday went to the muffler shop to have 3 inch tips put on to get louder/more drone sound. I originally had the exhaust exit the rear and I just had on 2 and a half in rolled tipped chrome tips on. It had real nice drone inside the cab and when I got on it, it had good sound, but not overbearing. I wanted just a little more.
Sooo... I had them put on 3 inch 16inch long tips. I also had them exit out side by side just before the passenger side rear tire...
I THOUGHT... by having the exhaust shortened up that it would give me bigger sound results, but it did quite the conterary. It made it sound good on start up and revving...but on the highway when I get back on the gas I've lost the good drone noise that I once had.
Why did shortening the overall length of the exhaust make such a drastic change?
Also, would having the exhaust tips in front of the rear tire possibly jeopardize the rear tire wear itself? Would it heat up the tire at all?
I know Ford had an issue with their exhaust exiting before the front of the tire, but I can't remember why they stopped doing that. I thought it was related to possible heating up of the rear tire.
Please Advise.
TIA!!!

i dont think the exhaust being near the tire makes a big difference because if you think about all the friction between the tire and the road and how hot that makes it i dont think that the exhaust exit presents any danger to your tires. i have my exhaust dumped over the rear axle and it sounds better inside than my dads does and it has a bit of a deeper sound but his with two 4 inch chrome tips coming out the back is definantly louder than mine i dont know the reason for this tho.
