I just got a 2002 4x4 SLT and noticed it's whining when I push on the gas. I took it to a local dealer shop and they said it's just the air intake system and the sound is just air coming into the vehicle. They said it's nothing to worry about, that it's just annoying. They also said that it's been a complaint about this model truck since it's a design problem with how the air intake system is too close to the firewall...or something like that.

I believe the truck has a very nice K&N air intake system, and I'd rather not have it replaced, but the sound is pretty annoying.

Is there any way that I can silence the noise?

Have others had a similar problem?

Does it have one of those throttle body spacers on it? They are reknown for causing a whistling sound.

 

which motor do you have?

if it's a 360, get a new TB hat gasket, it is most likely not sealing properly. do not over torque the TB hat in an attempt to get it to seal better, too much torque and it'll crack.
