Default EGR Sens A ckt Hi

Thats what the scanner told me the error was...

EGR sensor, if some kind. Anyone know what sensor specifically and where? My next step is to call the nearest Chrysler Dealer and see if this is a field replaceable item, or if they want to do it. Is it particularly harmful to drive with a bad/faulty EGR? My little knowledge says no, but I'd like a second opinion.

Thanks for the help guys.

Most likely, the EGR valve needs to be replaced. Costs a bit over $50, unless you are within the emmision warranty, then parts and labor should be without cost. Running with a defective EGR valve, causes the engine to run lean, which means it runs hotter, which is not good. Also, since the exhaust gases are getting dumped into the intake manifold even at lower RPMs, all that gunk ends up in the oil, and can foul the plugs, both of which ain't good either. After awhile, the engine will start to die when rolling to a stop. Been there, done that. Get it taken care of.

Duely noted.

So where could I find this sensor and check it, to ensure its the valve and not the sensor?

Some sensors are actually built into the PCM and ECM programs, thus, there is no physical sensor. That is why I suggested it is most likely the EGR valve.
