Default 3.73 from 4.10

Has anyone replaced their 4.10s with 3.73s. The trailer's gone and it's never coming back. Is this a DIY job? I'll never give up the truck but those gears are now not needed and with the price of diesel fuel...

Thats a change!!! Most people are going to where you are at right now. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if someone out there would be willing to trade you for the 4.10's straight up.

just curious, do you think going from 4:10's to 3:73's is going to make it worthwhile? There was only a 300 rpm difference going from 3:73's to 4:56's on my truck. I'm sure it will be different on yours with the 4 speed tranny but not that much I would think.

Thanks stump_breaker. I hope it would be worthwhile, but maybe not enough to take a chance on. But the difference between 50 mph (1700rpm)and 65 mph (2100+rpm) in mpg is pretty good, and less wear on the motor, perhaps. Ah well, what the h_ll do I know!

the difference in MPG between 50mph and 65mph is more due to aerodynamic drag, not your gears. driving 55mph instead of 65 will save you about 10-20% on gas, in any vehicle.

my buddies 03 CTD 2WD has the 3:73's in it. His truck can get about 25-27 MPG but he attributes his mileage gain to a Quadzilla reprogrammer and a K&N. Before those he was under 18mpg so it obviously made a huge difference. I know it woke his truck up ! You might consider that before a gear swap.

I've tried and tried but for some reason he will not trade his 03 2500 for my 05 1500. Stingy ba$tard!
