ORIGINAL: stump_breaker

well for starters,

engine compression
fuel pressure
fuel filter
At under 18,000 miles on a late model 05'? None of those things should go bad after a year of driving.

I wouldn't think compression would be an issue but possibly fuel pressure. Stranger things have happened at 18k or less. I was just giving you areas to look at.

mine does this on about a once a week basis...how embarassing to have a brand new truck and have to crank on it for 8 or 10 hits to get it to start...I always fill up with 89 octane and my truck just turned over 5500 miles and its an 05 hemi.
