Post Front Diff Fluid Change Weirdness
I have an 05 Ram 1500 4x4 w/LSD. Couple weekends ago changed the rear diff fluids (4oz bottle for the LSD from the dealership & the eqiv. Mobil 1). All Went well and fairly easy esp. with the nice guide w/pics floating on this site. I changed the front diff fluid (not as easy...) yesterday and I think Im noticing some weirdness(runs fine strait... makes some moaning or something noises when turning with 4x4 Hi & tires slip... hard to describe) when I switch it into 4x4 hi. I used the proper weighted oil in the front diff and performed mostly the same proceedure as doing the rear diff. Also, on a side question... does the rear diff act any differently when in 4x4 mode? (just curious, dont think there is any problem back there)
PS: I only notice this at slower speeds with the 4x4 on... Its like its struggling or something.
PS: Im going to try the 4x4 hi again on some gravel and not the street to get a better idea if it is normal or not however I would still appeciate any input even if it's to tell me Im worrying too much over nothing.
Thanks in advance for all the advise.

Yup,
You almost found out the hard way that 4wd is never used on pavement. The only exception to this is ice and snow. Running it on pavement causes the transfer case to bind up due to slightly different rotating differences between the front and rear tires.
Keep it in the dirt in 4wd drive, and no problems.

After I got over the brain fart I had... Im wondering if there is anything I should checkout with regards to the transfer case or either differential. Everything felt normal and nothing sounded out of the ordinary when out in the dirt. I just did both differentials and both had nothing out of the ordinary but it was just before my small pavement excursion around the block.
PS: The front diff wasnt as clean of a job as the rear diff. Does anyone know what works well for getting the RTV that managed to find itself on other parts off the easiest?

chances are, if you haven't had a problem yet, you won't. As far as the rtv all over, scrape as much as possible off, then try using course scotchbrite pad. A little wd40 may help break the bonds too. It a lot easier to wipe it off wet, than to peel it when its dry.
