so, ummm, give me the skinny on the tranny fluid change....
This is what I was trying to post earlier....................
Please note. This is not my own work, rather a cut and paste of what I think is a very good "how to" article.
I particularly like the way the transmission flushes itself with the engine running.
Enjoy.

How about following the owner's manual! This place never ceases to amaze me. Thank God you people don't work on aircraft.
Oh wait a second, I was out of line. What could I have been thinking that people would actually follow the manufacture’s recommendations....? [&:]

This I think is a Mopar exclusive and as particular as Dodge tranny's are, I would say use only that. Also, ATF-4 is big bucks too.

I've seen Valvoline ATF+4 at my local Autozone and Advance Auto Parts. It was $3.70 at Autozone, and $4.70 at AAP. At my local Wal*Mart (of all places) they have actual Mopar ATF+4 for $4.50.
In the 2005 and 2006 factory service manuals, it doesn't give a "Schedule A" transmission service intervail, but for previous years, it was fluid and main sump filter at 30K, 60K, 90K and 120K. The "spin on cooler return filter" was due at 90K.
For 2005 and 2006, "Schedule B" calls for fluid and main sump filter at 60K, and 120K, and the "spin on cooler return filter" at 120K.
All in all, the manual does call for a filter replacement.

LOL.
As I was saying, the +4 is a 'fill for life' fluid.
Does not need to be changed unless there is a mechanical problem. And yes, it would be too late then - thats the whole idea.
My service dept. doesn't have a flushing machine - like the first post was talking about - because we take the pan down to change the filter every time (non +4 vehicles). The trick to start the engine is a common practice here. that way EVERYTHING gets clean oil and a new filter.
The proper procedure is to retro fit everything with +4, but its so expensive we put the Dexron or +3 back in.
Now I'm getting a little confused.................?
Do I need to do a fluid change or not on my 03 Hemi 4x4 Ram?
Is this ATf+4 as intimated, indeed "for Life".............?
I'm just over 58K miles and need to do something I guess shortly?

^^^what he said^^^
Lets see, if I went by the OM for my 03 Avalanche then the computer tells me when to change the engine oil. That was about every 7500 miles. Sounds like a good idea to me! F*** it! I got warranty!! Never mind the problem with the SLUGE buildup by the people who went BY THE BOOK.
BTW, I went to college for Avaiation so what your point? Found out it sucked and now I'm an Environmental Control Manger.
It sucks too but hey, that's how I pay for my toys.

Sorry DDlr, I gotta disagree with you on that one. 30k is what is recommended in my book. I wish that was the case but as you could see by looking at the magnet from the photo above, there is definitely need for the change. I have seen for myself the inside of these dodge truck trannys, new ones using +4, I would highly recommend not letting it go beyond 30K. Just asking for trouble if you do. Again, just my opinion.
Oh yea, I fly them and fix them!
