Default Factory Uconnect Installation

I have read with interest the Factory Uconnect Install posts from Jan, Feb and March on this site. This website (http://ca.geocities.com/srt8_@rogers.com/main.htm) identifies the parts, the process and detailed instructions for making the needed wiring harness. Is the harness available from Dodge now? If it is, does anyone know the part number? If not, does someone on the forum make the harness, or is it available commercially? I am interested in getting the harness in-hand before I order the parts. I do not want to make the wiring harness - I know my limitations. Any assistance will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

My vehicle is a 2006 SLT Dodge Ram Truck (5.7L Hemi) with sunroof and trip computer. I just replaced the REF Radio (included sirius) with the REC Navigation Radio. Sorry I didn't list this before.

Well, I found the needed aftermarket wiring harness at lxharness.com
This makes the factory install possible!

I finally decided to have the dealer install the Uconnect system (dealer version). I am now selling all the parts needed to install Factory Uconnect in a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Truck. See the Parts For Sale under Classifieds if interested. I just didn't have the technical background to do the installation.

Never even knew of this system. Sounds pretty handy. Does it work in conjunction with a cell phone?

Yes, it is a very neat system. It provides hands free, voice activated interaction with any Blue Tooth capable cell phone.
You can read-up on this option at this web site: http://www.dodge.com/crossbrand/ucon...interface.html

Only the dealer installed version is available for your '02 though.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost to get the dealer to do this? Does your uconnect system have the controls on the rear-view mirror or the little pod? I am very interested in having this kit installed in my new 06 Thunder Road.

I had the dealer version installed. The kit was $299 plus $122 for installation. The dealer verson is not as nice as the factory version; it has the litte pod stuck to the radio/dash bezel. I have all the parts for the factory install, but did not feel comfortable with splicing wires.

My truck is only 2 weeks old and I don't want to chance voiding my warrany installing the factory version on my own. Have you had any trouble out of the dealer version?

No problems at all. I really enjoy it. It is nice to be hands free while driving. You need to be sure your cell is compatible with it. You can check the compatability list at the dodge website.
