Default Disapointed in my new RAM......

I really like the truck but Dodge has cut a corner that is just unforgivable. I just bought a new Laramie 2500 mega cab cummins td.

My tailgate does not have a lock and none is available per my dealership. How the heck can they make a $50,000 truck and not put a $2 lock on the tailgate?!?!?!?!?!

Fords, Chevy's (not all Chevy's), Nissans, Toyota's all have tailgate locks, but not even the top of the line Laramie has a lock in the Dodge line.

I can't believe I just spent this amount of money and I can't even lock up my truck. Not to mention someone stealing the tailgate. I was at a Dodge dealership where a new truck had its tailgate stolen.

You know you look at options when you buy a truck, you just don't think to make sure friggin locks are included in your new $50,000 Laramie.

Shame on Dodge for being so cheap and eliminating something so important. And they wonder why the Japanese are gaining ground.

I find it hard to believe you can't get a locking tailgate handle ANYWHERE.........but i do agree they should make that option standard, good luck on the hunt for it man, and hey, its an important thing but its an easy fix.

Color my stupid, but I could never understand the need for a locking tailgate latch....

I was raised with the understanding that locks only keep the honest folks out. (Yeah, tell me how much sense that makes in the city!?!)

A lock on a pickup's tailgate is about as effective as a screendoor on a submarine.
If they want what's in the bed, they're gonna get it.

A truck is a tool... the bed is for transport, not storage...
Folks that want to steal or damage whatever is in the bed will find a way to do it no matter what locks you buy.

if you want someone to not steal your tail gate, get yourself one of them screw clamps or a thick zip tie and put it around the side that slips out. this will keep them from being able to take it off unless 1, they have a screwdriver to take off the band clamp, or a knife to cut the zip tie.

sounds like a solution that is less than $25

Totally agree with you guys. Why would you want a lock for the tailgate? Its not like its a door that leads into the cab of the truck. If something is in the bed that is valuable or si something that someone wants they can just reach over the side of the bed or hop in and take it lock or no lock.

If you were really wanting to secure the bed through a camper shell on it or a taunoe cover (sp?) on it that has a lock. Most covers will stop the tailgate from opening without cover/camper being opened first.

The 2 most stolen items stolen on a pickup is the spare tire and the tailgate. Replacing that stolen tailgate and having painted to match gets pretty expensive. That is the main reason for a tailgate lock. Even if it is covered by insurance, there is the deductable to be paid and the pain in the butt to take care of it. It's just like getting into an accident that wasn't your fault and the insurance fixes your car. You still lose because it's never the same again and you had to deal with the time loss to get the repairs made.
