Default exhuast and tips on DIY

my friend has a 4.7L engine in his ram and has series 50 flomaster single in dual out on it. he wants a louder exhaust system. so he said just run stock cats on it. i told him that if he did that then he would lose some hp because he doesnt have the backpressure that he used to. so will it? please help me resolve this argument. and is that type of exhuast ok?

Well, depending on where you live, I don't think you can legally run without mufflers. The guideline is, if it came with a muffler from the factory, you have to keep some kind of muffler on it.

this is sort of a dumb question but the place where the pipe is clamped and goes into the muffler, its rusted like crazy. is there an easy way of getting it off there without cutting the pipe?

PB's Rust breaker worked on my jeep when I put a new muffler on it.
