Default 1500 9.25 rear diff question

Hey all, I have a question for ya. In January of this year, I hit a patch of black ice in the road and with 600 lbs of brand new snowmobile in the back of my lifted 98 ext cab short box 4x4. This truck had a posi rear diff and the back end slid out. Into the dithed and rolled. My question is will the posi carrier from this truck, work in my 04 9.25 rear diff, where only the passenger tire will roast'em, lol. They both have 3.55 gear ratio. I got to keep my 98, thanks to a blonde ditz at my insurance broker. Beforwarned, NEVER trust your insurance broker, always read your policy over. Renewing policies on the phone, isn't always a good idea. I requested collision, she thought she would save me some money by giving me comprehensive. Now, I have a very expensive paper weight, lol. Any help with the diff question would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys and gals. Take care.............Spanky

nope, that 98 has a DANA 60 rear(I believe) your 04 has a AAM 9.25. two different manufacturers. plus the LSD on the Dana's ran off clutch packs, the AAM LSD uses worm gears.

I know what you mean by the peg leg though, my little toya does it, but my ram, once the LSD is loaded up, will leave 4 different marks when in 4hi

The two rear ends might have some difference, but the 9.25 rear end that comes in the 1500 has been made by Chrysler for decades. That is not a Dana product. They used to use Dana front axles until a few years ago and then went to American Axle. The anti spin devices that are used currently, I believe are made by American axle and I believe that they used to buy the anti spin unit from Dana when they were on better terms. In either case, the stock anti spin unit IS a clutch pack design.

Well, I have the manuals for both trucks and it is definately a 9.25 and a clutch pack design. The rear ends are virtually identical, in specs, gear ratios and fluid capacities, but that dont mean much, lol. I have both trucks side by side, the only things that are holding me back, are fear and common sense. So I say what the heck, the 04 could use a fluid change anyhow, why not toss a couple axle seals in with it, lol. Thanks for the input guys, take care and keep the rubber side down.....................Spanky[8D]

I'd call up a part supplier for axle gears and diffs. and ask them if the same part numbers come up for the years your talking about. I wouldn't be suprised if they were the same.
