Default Subwoofer question

(2003 ram 1500 slt) This is for people with the 40/60 split bench with the center seat that opens up and underneath is a storage compartment. Anyways, Im thinking about making that into a secret hidden sub box, and put something that will fit nicely in there. What i wanted to know is, can I run bass off the infinity sound system head unit??

I highly doubt it. Those unit will power very little to no more than the speakers that are connected in a stock configuration. I had the Infinity system in my Jeep and, yeah, it's good, but not good enough to power even a 10" sub (which will fit in that hidden storage space, or at least did when I check fit one). You might try to hide an amp under the seat though?

You can do it but will need a sub that's either powered or connect and inline amp. Look for sub with speaker level inputs and you can splice directly into you existing speaker lines (but will still need to run a power wire to your battery and remote to your head unit or cig lighter). Plenty of custom boxes are avail for our trucks, here's one http://www.crutchfield.com/S-QWYp5PW...0&I=236DRQ2CT4
Crutchfield has great pre-purchase tech support.

No, you need an aftermarket amp to power your subs. It is possible to let the stock amp do it, but you will kill your subs and your stock infinity system. You can make your own subwoofer box out of fiberglass. I didn't do it because I am too lazy so I had my installer do it for me for $400. It's a good deal for any fiberglass box for your truck for under $500. But the answer for your question is no. Yes, like LoFlyer said, Crutchfield is very, very good but I wouldn't buy pre-loaded subwoofer boxes. That's just me.

yea I knew I had to use an aftermarket amplifier...but I wanted to know if there was an imput for the subwoofer, but it seems like you have to run it off the speaker lines. Is it worth doing that? Rather than going and buying a head unit that has a bass output line.

alrite sounds good. So its rear speaker imputs to amp (but not the rear speaker lines just the sub lines coming off the rear speakers), concealed sub. And just wire the amp to the battery. Sounds easy enough, wiring is the hard part. Does anybody know how to safely remove the stock head unit without damaging it?

jl audio makes 13" stealth boxes for the bench seat and 10" under the rear seat in quad cabs. I have the 10" in mine with a jl audio amp with 500 watts rms @ .05 thd. Every one thinks I have 4 12"s. All the other manufacturers are worthless. But be prepared for $600 for the box and $500 for the amp.
