Trailer light problem
I thought I would put a new post up to clarify my problem listed in my earlier posting.
The problem occurs when I hook up my car trailer to my Ram. The right rear brake light
will sometimes stay on all the time. The problem is not in the trailer wiring because when
this condition occurs the pins for the right brake in the trucks plug reads a full 12 vdc.
Since this truck uses two different bulbs for the brake and turn signal it seems to me that
there would be two seperate circuits to turn them on. Somehow these signal must go thru
some type of a control circuit to produce a single output to the one filment in the trailer
bulb that is used for both the brake and the turn signal. This signal is not connected to the
trucks tail lights directly because when this condition occurs the trucks tail lights work normally.
The wiring diagrams I have found and looked at do not show where the output to the trailer plug
comes from. I have found a mention of a forward control module. Does anyone have any diagrams
that show how the plug is wired or where this control module is? I would think that Dodge would
use some type of a solid state control and not use old fashioned relay logic, but it acts like a relay sticking
somewhere. I work as an industrial mechanic and have wired and programed many control systems
but sticking a PLC on the back of my truck is a little bit of overkill so if anyone has a better
wiring diagram or knowledge of this system you will have my heart felt thanks.
