steering wheel radio controls
does anyone know if its possible to still use the steering wheel controls w/an aftermarket stereo?? didnt even realize I had the steering wheel controls til just recently---just incase the radio remote isnt handy--too much convenience isnt possible, is it?
i did this with my wife's toyota camry. a company named pci (i think) makes interfaces for things like steering wheel controls. her's was an 06 and the interface i got from crutchfield (made by pci) worked ok. i did electronics in the marine corps so doing the trace and soldering in the resistor were easy. only problem was some form of short that i think was caused by a voltage irregularity. the radio would turn off randomly and would lose the xm tuner...would flip to 'aux' instead of 'xm' and you couldn't control the tuner...until a few days later the radio would kick off again and swap back to 'xm'. very odd.
go to www.crutchfield.com and chat with an online associate, they can guide.
sorry, short answer : yes, there are interfaces available for steering wheel controls, depending on radio and vehicle models.
