Default Key progaming

Just bought a 2006 Ram 1500 Mega Cab, they gave me only one key, but did send off and get another key. They said I had to take to a dealer to get programmed, well I did that and they want $60.00 to it. Can I do it myself or is there another way? Thanks for the help.

There is way to do it, at least you could in most of the vehicles after 200. The directions for it, might be in the owners manual, or at least in the service manual. If you don't have a service manual, then go to www.hemitruckclub.com and download one. I haven't had to programm one on my truck, but I'm sure its not that difficult. Good luck

If you just bought the truck and it was in the agreement that you were getting another key, the dealership should program it for free IMO.

The truck is used from a dealer that sells only trucks, they said they only got one key. They did get one that is already cut like the original but it is not programmed. According to the service manuel customer can program up to eight keys, but in orfer for that to take place you must have the two original keys. If you don't have them they can use the scan tool to program the key, but they want sixty dollars. Guess I'll just have to chalk this one up and take to dealer.

Check with another dealer(s). I was 2nd owner and didn't get the keyfob. Got and OEM one off ebay and a local deaer programmed it for free. If it hadn't been an OEM they would have charged. I know the fob is not the same as the sentry key, but the process and time is the same for the dealer.

Just a warning from my experience. I got a key with Sentry chip (gray key) from eBay for $20 and a dealer cut it for free. I had original 2 keys and was able to go to programming mode. Unfortunately, Sentry system was not able toaccept the key. I complained to people who sold me the key. They asked me to send it back to check it out on tester andI never heard from them again. At least they refund my money. So I guess thekey was bad? I would never know.
