Anybody have the K&N aircharger kit on their 06 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi?

Just installed it on mine last week and its makes a thump sound after acceloration; sounds like its from the airfilter but now positive. I believe its due to the MDS. Its when motor is dowshifting I believe. It doesn't do it if I put the tow haul switch on, no thump sound.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening or if I could be damaging my truck. I know the kit in installed correctly.

Did you put the whole kit on,tube and all? If you did,that aluminum tube acts like a giant speaker and you will hear all kinds of noises you never heard before.I am sure it is the MDS kicking cylinders out,I have heard others with this same question.

 

Sounds like your filter housing-metal box thing might be a little loose. I had the same problem with
mine and I just readjusted the brackets. Also check your support bracket for the intake tube. Mine was
not bent enough and the filter and tube were hitting the hole of the intake box.

It may also be your MDS kicking in. It makes a "poof" kind of sound.

Does it not sound wicked though under full throttle?

 

thanks guys, I think you are right. everything is tightened up nice. i think i'm just hearing the MDS. i just wish it was silent. its fine if i drive with the tow haul on. Is that unsafe to drive around like that?

 

Towhaul just locks up your torque converter quicker and holds your gears longer.
It might be a little harder on the transmission, but it would be no different
then driving around with something in the bed of your truck every day.
