What does it mean when the exhaust is "dumped"?

You got the muffler and then right on the out pipe of the muffler, you add a turn down pipe.
Basically, "dumped" at the muffler, you dont let it run all the way out the back or to the side. Right after the muffler you turn it down as in "dumping" the exhaust down.
I mean you could have it all the way to the back, but then you turn them down, not straight out.

The "theory" is that the sound would bounce from the ground, up to the bed cavity and yes make the sound louder.
