Default What wire?

Newbie here with a quick question. I just put on a set of running boards with some lights on them, where and what color wire do I splice into to get them on the same circuit as the dome lights? It is a 2006 Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4x4. Thanks for the info.

Go to here. On the left, click on your year to download the service manual. (Its quite a large file, but its more than worth the time to download!)
On page 2987 (8W-44-2 of the manual) is the wiring diagram you are looking for. Its a yellow/light blue wire. The manual will be able to provide you a good idea of where to splice into that wire.

I am working on an '05 Dodge quad cab trying to find the dome / courtesy light wire that I can tap into.

I've also downloaded the manual that DodgeRules mentioned. I have verified that the color of the wire is yellow/LB wire is in the dome light.

Can anyone tell me if this wire runs through the "A" pillar near the windsheild, and can you tell if it is a 12 volt positive signal?

I'm use to having an '03 Dodge ram that used the ground to switch the dome light on and off. I had to use a relay to send 12 volts + to my running boards.

If I can just pick up 12 volts + from this wire that would help me a lot. I'm not trying to draw a lot of power through the wire, I just need the on/off signal.

Thanks.

I may be wrong but - if you tap into the dome light wire, the lights will only come on when the door is open or if the dome light wheel is turned all the way up?

If they are running lights, wouldn't you want to tap into the parking light wire at the power module under the hood so that they come on when your parking lights are on?

the parking light wire behind the light switch is purple and it's negative.

The positive is under the hood,

The dome light wire is in the "A" pillar, driver's side

Sorry if I've misunderstood.....

Just another note....

at bulldogsecurity.com, you can find vehicle wiring diagram for remote starter that shows the "A" pillar and the wire that you're talking about. It is a brown wire in the "A" pillar. Check out bulldog - they have a wiring diagram with the color codes, and a few pictures of the "A" pillar apart with the brown wire marked.

Thanks for the responses. I actually found a "black box" controller at www.fireStars.com that has a parking, turn signal and courtesy light/dome circuit input to it that I'm tying into my running boards. It makes a single function LED light do all 3 functions. I took apart the "A" pillar and found the yellow/light blue tracer wire that is a 12 v + wire for the dome light. I'm not actually pulling power from the wire, but just an input signal for the controller so I do not need a relay for power draw. I'll pick up the positive from under the hood to power the controller, then tie the parking and turn signals into the contoller and watch what happens.

The brown wire in the "A" pillar is for the 2003 ram and is a negative ground switch. The yellow/LB wire looks consistent with the 2004- ram from the wiring diagrams from the site mentioned. I'll try to post some pictures when I get it all wired up.

Thanks for all the help.
