4.7 Enough Power??? Other Problems???
Hey guys, this is my first post as I am looking at a 02 QC 4x4 auto with the 4.7. The truck has 90000 kms on it (about 50000 miles). I was just wondering what to watch out for with these trucks? I drove it and although more power is always better it seemed fine for a truck to me. How well do they pull a car trailer, boat, etc. Any major problems with this engine, trans that I should know about. How is the mileage, say compared to the hemi or a 350 chev. Thanks for the info, Tyler
i have the same truck, and i pull an 18ft enclosed car hauler with a 73 240z in it, and it pulls it just fine... you can obviously tell its back there, but its not like its struggling to pull it. typically i get about 12-13 in the city and up to 18 or 19 on the hwy. i havent had any real problems. i love it.
I have an 03, it's lifted and has 35" tires.. Im running 4.56 gears, and I tow a 24ft. Prowler camping trailor, and a 21 ft. Maxum boat, and it pulls them both just fine.. I get about 10mpg towing, about 14mpg around town, and 16-18 on the highway even after the lift and tires.. So I would say it is an awesome truck, runs really strong..
If you get it, and it has 3.55 gears, that has got to be the first thing you do is get the gears done, because with those gears, it's a dog.. Just my .02..

I paid about 170 for the gears, and 240 to have them installed, and I got a discount on the labor, because this is the third vehicle I have taken to them to get gears in stalled, (My El Camino, 5.0 Mustang, and now my truck!) So, it would probably be a safe guess that it would be around 300-350 for installation for a rough guesstimate. 170 + 300 = 470 .. So 500 should be max. I paid 410..
