Default Wanting the facts

Hello there from austin tx,
I am a new owner of a 04 Single wheel 3500 and i am enjoying the hell out of it....But i have recently heard some things about the original fuel pump(mounted on the engine)... when the stock fuel pump goes out, the new one has to be installed in the tank itself which also requires a wiring harness. I have hear $1000 bucks just for parts....a possible 15-2000 dollar job....is this true?

is this gas or diesel? I thought all of the gassers had it mounted in the tank already. if it's a diesel, there are cheeper options and better ones... walbro makes a kit for about $400~450 that puts out alot more fuel then the stock pump.
