oil question
for the 06's 5w20, for the 03-05's 5w30. both versions of the hemi take 7 quarts. I second the synthetic, Mobil 1 synthetic is all I'll put in my engine. I would also recommend a Wix or NAPA gold oil filter, they may be a little more expensive, but they put the lower cost ones (fram) to shame.
If you're still under warranty, then don't go over 6kmi. The owner's manual says 3k to 6k depending upon conditions and never to exceed 6kmi. If you don't have a warranty concern and you want extended drain intervals, I'd recommend calibrating your particular engine and driving situation with UOAs. Most folks seem to find 5k to as much as 8k on the Hemi is possible with a good synthethic, oil filter, and the right driving conditions. Without the UOAs, though, you're just going by feel which can be deceiving. I'm my case, I had tried RP for 2 3k mi OCIs with okay "feel". But, the UOA turned up high copper wear on each change. Switched, back to a blend of M1 5 qts 5W20 and 2qts M1 5W30 Truck SUV, drove 5,500 miles on a summer road trip with all wear metals back to better than with 3kmi UOAs. In general, I stick within 6kmi with M1. No UOA I've ever done across the years on 3 different vehicles and most oil (mostly M1 syn) has ever showed the oil was worn out at that point. By 8k OCI, some were borderline. By 10k OCI, many were spent. Note: driving conditions really affect oil like. Cold weather, short trips are murder on oil. Warm weather long highway trips are relatively easy on oil.
