Few things I am curious about!
As you all who read, may already gather, I am relatively new to this, and there are a few questions that I have, that maybe some of you know better about. First off, I have a 04 single cab 1500 SLT 4.7 liter. I have magnaflow catback duals, and I need to get more sound! Next off, I put a K&N Stock replacement filter in, is there going to be much more difference if I go to cold air intake? Is K&N that much better than Airaid or Volant, or any other CAI? As far as power programmers go, do I need to upgrade the computer chips first at all? Between programmers, superchips, Jet, Hypertech ETC, which one is better? Any feedback would be great!
-You dont need to upgrade the computer at all if you are just adding an exhaust and intake, just un-hook the negative battery cable before you do add any mods which should reset everything.
-I'd go with superchips for a tuner if they make one for the 04' 4.7L because they allow you to do more than the others as far as programing goes in my opinion (personal prefferance).
-Climb under your truck and make sure the resonators were removed from your exhaust system to make sure it's as loud as it will go. I think there were still two on the 04' but I may be wrong. Also just an FYI but most Magnaflow exhaust setups are not that loud to begin with.
-There will be a good difference in hp/mpg going from a power robbing filter to a true CAI. Also the CAI will make your truck's engine louder and sound alot more aggresive than stock and should add a little more sound to the exhaust as well. Many people have a wide variety of preferrences and opinoins on which ones are better than the others and what they actually do for your truck in terms of HP and MPG so just do a search and you should find MANY MANY results on the CAI questions/products.
Anything else?

I intalled the exhaust myself, and not sure where the resonators are located? Are you talking about the catalytic converters? Sorry if that is an elementary question, but I work on Harley exhaust pipes and know a little of how it should work, but pretty much clueless as far as my truck goes.
as stated already magnaflow is a quieter exhaust but if it sounds nice and you like it then id say its fine. i have an 04 4.7 also and they do not make any programmers for the 04-present 4.7s they make one fror the 03 but i think the computers are different enough that it wont work on an 04. they make a jet ship and they advertise big gains (30 hp with exhuast and intake on 91 octane for a stage 2 chip) but ive heard that chips dont work very well and that you will notice the power gain only for the first few days and then your computer will adapt and "override" the chip. i have a K&N 29 series CAI and love it. on the test drive i noticed a slight drop in rpms at highway speeds and once you get up to about 3k rpms it sounds mean! it really added a nice sound on top of my exhuast. ive seen lots of ppl putting other brands on and i have no experience with any of these brands so i cant say which is better but in my opinion, any good reputable brand will be good enough for your needs and uses. you wont see that much of a difference between a $400 cai and a $75 ebay cai for your everyday use just general driving around. if you had a performance truck then id go with the best intake system i could find but that would probably end up being a ramair setup with the hood and everything unless you wanted to go with FI. id go with a good reputable brand anyways just for the customer assisstance and support that they offer. K&N has a deal where if you dyno your truck before and after the intake is installed (both tests must be withing 30 days of each other and within a certain number of days of purchase of the system) and dont see an improvement in rwhp (i think its if you dont see at least 8 rwhp) then you can return the kit with all the original parts and hardware in the original packaging for a full refund of the price you paid. i never dynoed mine cuz i just didnt care that much about actual numbers since its just a daily driver. the butt dyno loves it tho.
I also have an 04 4.7. If I could do everything over, I'd go with the entire AirRam package (the intake, powerwire, and scoop) which is a TRUE CAI. Most other (K&N included) are not true CAI, cause the air comes from under the hood and is heated. But he (AirRam)does have a waiting period. I am happy with my K&N FIPK intake system. My Gibson exhaust is nice cause I'm not looking for really loud pipes. My buddy has the Flowmaster 40 on his 4.7 and it has a deeper, louder sound. As far as taking the negative wire off the battery...I'm positive that I read in a post about 2 weeks ago that that does not reset the computer. I can't remember, but I think they said you have to remove the ECM and turn the key on (but don't start the engine) and then turn it off, but don't quote me on that cause I can't remember how exactly it is done. I posted a question after I read that and I was told that an intake and exhaust change won't benefit from resetting the computer. If you're new to this forum and relatively inexperienced mechanically, the best advice I can give you is READ....READ, READ, READ, READ! I've learned so much on this website it's friggen ridiculous, and most of the time it's good information from good people, not crap from some unethical, gear head wanna-be just trying to line his pockets! Good Luck
P.S. - I've searched High and Low for a programmer or decent, reliable chip...that darn Hemi is soaking up all the attention!
