badblackhemi...question
I saw in the ET post that you are running a 125 shot and a flashpaq. Any troubles with that, since the flashpaq increases timing and the nitrous guys usually say to retard timing some? What brand and kit are you running, and how do you like it? Is it wet or dry? Looks like it is working well with the times you are running. I have a 2005 2500 qc 4X4, so I'd need a jet engine to go that fast. I am considering the Zex 125 wet kit, to hopefully get me in the 14.75 range in the 1/4 mi. Then maybe a cam and get me in the 14.0 to 14.3 range. Do you think those times are possible with my big clunk of iron?
no troubles at all! the only thing i do to be on the safe side is to set the flashpaq on the 87 tune, and then run 93 octane. it's a ZEX kit, which i recommend to any beginners to nitrous. it's a very safe kit and easy to install. do you have any times on your truck right now? usually a 100 shot will drop an easy second off of your E.T. and the 6.1 cam will probably drop another .2, i think that the comp 260 will drop around .4 and the comp 268 dropped a guys quad cab .6 i think. But there is a guy with a 1500 quad cab 4x4 that ran a 13.1 @103!!! his mods are 2500 Aps converter, 4.56 gears, STS Turbo intercooled, meth injection, SMT6, w 39lb injectors, 2bar map, egr baffle and all this was done on the Stock 20's. i think he was running 9lbs of boost, but im not sure...it was somewhere between 8-10lbs
WOW. Fast for a 4X4 qc. I'll never do that much. I have a superchip, K+N drop in filter, and that's about it. I think I'm going to do the powerwire, a 180 thermostat, then go for the Zex 125 kit. I was really worried the superchip and the powerwire would advance the timing too much for nitrous. Are you running 100hp or 125hp nitrous? When I cam, I'll probably go with the 6.1 cam or something else that size or just a little more. I can't go with a huge cam because the weight of my truck and I tow a 7000 pound camper quite a bit on long trips. A huge cam would help my times, but I think I would give up too much low end grunt. Same reason a high stall converter isn't on my wish list. I am just hoping to have a stock looking, high sitting, solid front axle (had to add that, to make the chevy guys jealous), 6 seater 4X4 that can pull away from most all other trucks on the street. Unless they are modified, of course. I think the flashpaq, zex 125, and eventually cam will give me the most bang for the buck. And will still keep my truck very useful for what I use it for. Thanks for the help.....it is nice knowing someone else has these mods and are working well together.
i using the 125 jets right now, i think the KRC 210 or the COMP 260 would be the best cam for you. they offer just a little more hp than the 6.1 but add like 35 ft/lbs of torque. i think you would be fine with a 2600 stall and some 4.56's if you tow some. plus the Torque Converter+4.56's will make your big truck SCREAM off the line!! add a torquey cam and that 125 shot, you're gonna surprise alot of ppl with that 2500 of yours. one thing i wish though....is that i would have gotten a 2500 4x4 quad cab...with the cummins!! i could have made one of those trucks run mid 12's and then go play off road with it after that!! there's a guy that goes to the track with us that ran like a 12.56 in the 1/4 with a 1.5* 60ft time!! and this was on 35" MUD TIRES!
those cummins engines are great. Amazing to make that power out of a 6 cyl oil burner. Price and the black smoke after they are chipped is what steered me away. Mainly the price. Where did you mount your nitrous bottle? Also, did you have to get any other reflash when you installed it, or are you on the stock pcm with the flashpaq installed? I think I am going to take your advice when the time comes and go with a krc 210. I also think that cam will work with the stock pcm flash and a flashpaq. Bigger than that and I think I'll need a custom reflash. Thanks for your answers. I'm sure there are others considering these same upgrades.
