Its the exaust system. You must have a truck with law miles. Remember that the exaust has is about 1400 degrees and thats traveling threw a system that has not seen that much heat since it was put together. Both of my vehicles have made the same noise when they where new ,both are 8 cyl and the crackle disapates with time. After about 5 k miles I would no longer here it unless itwas about 20 degrees or lower. Just think about how Ice would crakle when it is droped into warm water. They are just expanding and contracting til the metal adjusts to the heat of the engine. It is not a problem.

What's the weather like where you live ? Is it just starting to get cold ? If it is, take the truck out for a long ride and park it in an garaged area were it is out of the cold weather you'll hear less crackling ,then take it back outside and listen to see if the noise is differant. If not I sugjest checking the cats. Make sure you check them out at night after a long ride on the expressway. If they are clogged or have any problems overheating they will also make that sound and you can see them glowing red in the dark. Hope these pointers help.
