ticing sound
I have a 2003 1500 SLT with the 4.7L, 5 speed, flowmaster cat back, k&n cold air induction, and its a 4X4. so everytime i back up there is a ticing sound and the engine wants to die, when you turn the wheel and that is when your accelerating in reverse. Help Please, this did start till i was helping some friends put stumps and we got stuck in the mud so i droped in to 4 wheel drive and then when we were un stuck we put it back in 2 wheel drive and thats it.
Wide,
I'm no mechanic so this is only a guess but it sounds like the transfer case may not have completeley disengaged. Do you feel any binding when you are drivivg forward and turn hard left or right?
In any case I would (on soft ground) put it back in 4 wheel drive and drive it forward 20-50 feet. Then stop, put it back in 2 wheel drive and then back up 20' or so. Sometimes this helps the transfer case totally disengage.
The other thing is (I'm assuming you dont have the electric 4X4 switch) sometimes if I didnt get it all the way out of 4 wheel drive I would get the same click and you could feel it in the 4 wheel drive selector shifter.
Good luck!

it worked great, it no longer does the ticing sound when backing up, figured out all the gears in the transfer case by going to a friends house and throwing some mud, got to love oregon in the fall
Sweet!
Glad to hear it worked out and nothing serious. The truck I have now has the electric switch on the fly so I dont have to do it any more but I made it a habbit to always back up my other 4X4's like that every time I took it out of 4 wheel drive. If I heard the click I new it wasnt all the way back in 2 wheel drive.
