vibration in my '06 Ram
Hi guys, new member, I drive a '94 Dodge VIPER and just traded my 2002 Durango for a 2006 Ram 1500 2x4 regular cab with SLT, Sport, 5.7L Hemi, and 275/60-20 wheels/tires.
I bought my truck used with 6,500 miles on it, in great shape. When I got it home I noticed scalloping on the front tires. I also noticed two vibration problems, one above 60mph where the truck would shake, the other above 70mph that I could feel in the steering. I took the truck back to where I bought it and they replaced those two tires and balanced all four wheels. The shake is gone, must have been a balance issue, but the steering shimmy, a little above 70, but definitely above 75mph it is still there.
There does not appear to be any damage to the front suspension. I've heard a few people mention this might be normal, what are your thoughts? any chance this is a wheel bearing issue?

I was just getting ready to post about my '06 Ram 1500 Sport 4x4. I bought it new, and at around 4800 miles, it started developing a vibration (I drive mostly highway) at 70+ mph. My steering wheel shakes, and I can also feel the tail end shaking. I had my wheels rotated and balanced at Big O (1200 miles before recommended), where they told me I had a "bad wheel". I took it right to my local Dodge dealer to inspect the wheels, where the immediately began trying to prove me wrong. They said Big O just balanced them wrong, before they even looked at it! After losing it for a day, I picked it up and it shook ten times worse. I took it back that day, and after losing it another day they told me a "junior tech" balanced the wheels wrong and that they're sure they have it. They declined to test drive it with me.
The problem is, they test drove it on a stretch of highway that's 55mph, not 70+! This weekend, I put it up on jackstands, and let it idle in 4x4 and could physically see that all 4 tires (same size as yours, Goodyear Wrangler HP) were out of round! They literally had 3 or 4 high spots. Anyway, I called the sales lady that sold it to me, from a different dealership with much nicer people, and they're going to exchange it for a rental car at my house tomorrow. She says the service manager has agreed to do the same test I did, and will most likely replace all 4 tires. I may demand another brand of tire.
Sorry for the long post, but it may very well be the Goodyear tires. Take it to a dealership and demand action!
