Default 03' 1500 4.7L tranny gears?

Anyone have a fast way of telling how many gears are in a transmission? I dont know if my tranny is a 545 rfe or a 45rfe? I am trying to buy a shift kit and need to know it is five gears or four? Is OD (overdrive) considered a gear?

Go to the dealer and have them print a build sheet of your truck. It should list the transmission and everything else that your truck came with. I'm assuming its 5 gears (545RFE), but what does the amount of gears have to do with the shift kit?

2002 Automatics where 45RFE with the .75 overdrive.
2003-UP where 545RFE with the .75/.67 overdrives

Trans Model ...........First........Second......Third.......Fo urth........Fifth
545RFE*................3.00.......1.67/1.50.....1.00.........0.75.........0.67
45RFE* ................3.00.......1.67/1.50.....1.00.........0.75

I hope this helps answer your question... If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact me.

Thanks a lot! I am trying to get rid of the crappy shifting with the stock tranny! I don't want to spend too much money, as I am a college kid with little income. I think I am going to try of the transgo shift kit, to firm up some of the shifts. I had one in an old 89' caprice I used to owne and loved the way it snapped my neck! Thanks again!
