4wd drive hubs on a 2wd drive front end

I just put a set of winter tires and steel rims on my 05 Ram 1500, Sport SLT, 2wd truck. I noticed the front hubs are hollow and contain the splines for a 4wd truck. Has anyone else noticed 4wd drive front hubs on a 2wd truck?

I asked the dealership when I was in - but they did not know anything...
