6x9 woofers only?
Howdy all. This is my first post, but I must say that this is a really nice site. I've been searching all day and have found lots of good info, but haven't found an answer to my question. I want to upgrade from the factory speakers to get better bass response and sweeter highs. Right now, I don't want to deal with installing a sub; maybe later. I understand that the front speakers in my 2006 QC (7-speaker system) are 6x9s, but serve as mid-bass/woofers only and the highs come from the 3.5s in the dash. Are there any 6x9" woofers out there that would work?
There are plenty of 6x9 coaxials around, but figured this may not be a good idea since they have tweets that will essentially not have frequencies to reproduce. 6.5 inch woofers seem to be a bit more common, but I would rather stick with a 6x9" for now. I figure the greater cone area will translate into better bass response than the 6.5" can produce. I have lots of experience with 6.5" coaxials and have not been pleased with the sound. Every 6x9" I have ever heard just seems to sound deeper.
I did find an MB Quart component set (RCE269) that has a 6x9" woofer and a separate tweeter. Not sure if it will fit. Any have this setup? Any other recommendations? Thanks!
