Rear end question
I've got a reg cab 2x4 hemi that came with a 9.25 rear end and 17" wheels. What I want to know if it's limited slip.If I punch it in a turn, the inside will spins first, and sometimes the outer kicks in,but usually just one tire goes.In the rain is something else.Just because it's 9.25,does that mean it's the limited slip axle? Also, the 20's are only available with the 9.25,but is the 9.25 available with other tire combo's? I want to know if perhaps someone switched the wheels on it,as I am the 2nd owner and purchased it from a dealer.I was getting 19mpg,which seemed high for me considering my dad's qc gets 13mpg.I switched to 20's,and get 17mpg now, which seems more like it.
Look at the build sticker in the glove compartment. It contains a bunch of codes and descriptions that includes whether the rear diff is LSD. If that's missing, then next time you change the rear diff fluid, look at the inside of the diff where the spider gears are located. If you see springs, its LSD. Of course if you see a bunch of metal shards in the oil, you know it's an LSD and the c-clips have fallen out and been ground up by the gears. In that case, if you're out of warranty, it's time for a new/rebuilt rear-end. :-)

I checked the glove compartment and it says 9.25 axle with 3.92 gear ratio.I don't see anything about lsd.Oh,and last night,I was making a left turn at a light, and it turned red on me,so I punched it and both tires took to spinning. Not too good when all the cars around you are beamers and mercedes. It was dry and cold,no oil at all.It was all fun after I got it straightened out.
thing is, if both tires took to spinning at the light you probably DO have an LSD. If you didn't only one would have spun. Are you positive both tires were spinning? Best bet is to call dealer with VIN# and they will be able to tell you over the phone pretty fast. We have gone over this quite a few times and the dealer is open on saturday. Just call the parts department.
