05 HEMI LONG CRANK TO START
my truck has been to the dealer 3 times in three mounths and they still cant figure out what is wrong. It starts every time it just cracks for 30 to 60 sec anyone else have the same problem and what was the fix.
Turn the key to on, wait 2-3 seconds, then start. This will give the fuel pump enough time to build pressure. Are you having any engine running dificulty after it has been started? If so, perhaps the crank sensor is off?
i have tryed waiting 3-4 sec and it didnt help. Also the crank sensors have been replaced twice. Also the truck runs great otherwise. The funny part is that the colder it gets outside the less it happens.
I am really getting fed up with this truck. The check engine light comes on yesterday and then the truck starts fine. Call the dealer make an appointment (tuesday is the yearliest) and this morning the light turns off and back to the long crank time anyone else have this happen and get it fixed. It is starting to make me rethink buying another Dodge when my lease is up.
I noticed that your screen name is boxerdiesel, is your truck a diesel or gasoline engine? If it is diesel that may be your issue. Your glow plugs may be shot. Remember you cannot just get in a diesel truck and turn the key to start it. If you do, you actually ruin your glow plugs thus making it very hard to start your truck. Just as what you describe. Also if you can give me the code that your truck is throwing I can tell you what it is. Let us know how things turn out.

If you can go to Advance Auto they can run your computer and give you a print out on the code or codes it's throwing. Sorry for the strange question in regards to the type of motor I just wanted to make sure. What it really sounds like is your motor is tring to fuel. You stated that it happens less when it's cold. It could be your fuel pump. Then again try to start off with the least cost effective. Try fuel filter, then again that may be in your tank so either way you may be screwed. Well good luck and let me know.

my ram has 96,000 miles on it, i just dropped the tank.
The tank looked clean as did the filter sock.
When i ran the pump, it was full of crap.
This means that the factory "permanent filter" isn't doing squat.
I noticed that somebody else had clogged fuel rail/injectors.
How do they get away with engineering this kind of crap.
I guess if it doesn't show up until the warranty is up, they're off the hook.
