2004 wheel center cap unavailable
I lost a center cap off of my 2004 ram wheel. I went to the local dealer to order one. The computer showed that they had 3 in stock he went to look for them and couldn't find any. The parts guy said the computer listed 2 different ones and he wasn't sure what the difference was said he would order 1 of each and i could come back on tuesday and pick up the right one. So i get down there tuesday and he said only one came in that the second is no longer avaibale. I open up the package and there is 4 chrome raised ram head centers my rims are the gray/silver rims they didn't match. so we went outside and popped one of my centers off and put that part number in to the computer and again it pulled up the two listings saying the chrome one is the only one avaibale. He offerd to good look for the one that showed in stock he came back with two of the matching centers i bought both of them. said thats the last of that style if i loss any more that i could only get the chrome ones. I cant belive i can't get parts for a 2004 truck
I had the same caps and kept losing them so I changed to the new style. Apparently the original style did not have aggressive enough tabs to keep them on so Dodge stopped making them (says the parts guy at the dealer). The new style doesn't look that bad too me since my originals were satin silver looking anyway and they definately grip the wheel better.
I just bought a package of four for my father for Christmas. His is an 04 as well. I went by to see if they match and realized they didn't. The guy at the dealership had told me that had redesigned them in the last couple of months so they would stay on better. He also said they are a whole lot cheaper. What we paid for four would have cost us for just one. I thought about taking it back, but I noticed that my 06 had the same cap with the same color of wheels as my father, and it really doesn't look bad at all. Someone else on this board told me that if you will put a little bit of silicone on them before you pop them in, they won't fall out. I would like to know why they come out to begin with. What purpose to they serve? It would have been easier "for us" to just make them part of the wheel.
