Default Truck Cap Opinions?

I want to put a truck cap on my 2004 Ram 2500 short bed.

I'm looking at the following models:
[ul][*]A.R.E. Z Series[*]Leer XL Series[*]Jeraco Supreme Series[/ul]Anyone have any comments about any of these choices? Other recommendations?

I put the Leer XL on my 05 QC short-bed 1500. I kind of wish I had gotten the upgrade that carpets the interior. It reduces sounds from the back (not too loud without it though) and reduces heat gain in the summer. I definitely like the looks--if you're a cap kind of guy and not everybody is.

Recently, mine developed rain leaks around the side windows after I temporarily took off the cap to carry a huge load of brush to the dump. Not sure if the minor twisting that occurred loosened some seals or what. Just need to towel out the puddles after a big rain. Be aware that removing the cap and putting it back on is a 4 person job without any special lifts. I temporarily secure the cap onto 2 2x4s and then have a person at each end lift it off/on. And, that's heavy. I think mine weighs in around 150-200 lbs.

Roger...

I've got the paint matched Leer 100XQ on my '06' QC and it's sweet!

You can't go wrong with Leer products. You'll pay for it though.

Good luck!

I saw a Leer cap on a white 02-05 Dodge Ram and from where I was I swore to God it looked like a huge SUV (think Ram based Excursion). I actually turned around to get a better look. Then I saw the Leer logo. It looked totally integrated, unless you were right next to it, you couldn't tell. If I were to get a cap, that'd be the one.

I'm still shopping for a topper for my 06 Ram, I like the looks of leer the best but at 2800.00 cdn I'm not in a rush. ARE is also pricey in Canada, so look arround, a lot of people buy toppers than give the truck back at the end of thier lease and have a topper stitting in thier yard...

Of all the topper dealers in BC, Sask, Alberta, and Montana/Whasington Sate I called, not one has a topper to fit my truck unless I factery order...

Caps are pretty pricy everywhere. That's why I bought a Firber glas lid. Around $700.00.
