What to look out for in a HD 3rd Gen Ram?
Hi guys, I have a friend here at work that has some bad luck in the past 2 yrs with Ford and Chevy. The first was a 1996 F250 with a major Transmission problem (as in multiple rebuilds), the second was a 2003 F350 with the 6.0 powerstroke, and that truck had something like 6 turbo's replaced for a boost issue, among other things. Recently this past weekend, the Allison trans in his 2003 2500 HD chevy (duramax) just blew up. He has had this one for a couple of months, and has been in the shop for trans, and engine boost issues. I'm trying to talk him into a HD Dodge, but I'd hate for him to get a dodge, then have something go wrong.... I'd look like dumbass. Anything out there that he should specifically look for? I'm trying to talk him into a new one, but I doubt he wants to spend that kind of money. I know he wants the next truck to be a diesel with a manual transmission, most likely 4x4. Thanks for any input.
My truck is a 06 2500 SLT Ram, 5.7 6 sp reg cab 4x4, A truck that most people would never consider, but it's a 3/4 ton.
I gave up on Ford after manny years of owning them, my last 2 F-150's were a 02 and a 04, booth garabge, I was going to give Ford a 3rd try with a power stroke F-250, I do like 3/4 ton Fords, the F-150 is a crap car trying to pretend it's a truck, but my Ford dealer and Ford credit and my self could not make the numbers work, So I said P on Ford..
If your going for gas power, the 5.7 walks all over the 5.4 3v ford, The Ford dose have optional up lifter switchs and the trailer brake controler and the quality of Fords paint and body structure is way above any thing Dodge could ever hope for, And Ford dose have the power delay feature (XLT) I whish my SLT had this.
The suspension and drive train are not all that new on a 2500 in comparison to 02 to 05 Dodge 2500, Dodge was ahead of Ford with the coil over front shocks vers Fords front leaf springs, The cabs are pretty close in size for reg cabs.
Dodge is a well built truck, I have no issues with mine. Dodge is proving to be a satasfactery alternative For the unhappy Gm owners, Ford owners
