49ers have a lot of upside right now. They are finally well UNDER the salary cap, 8 picks in the first four rounds and one of the best rushing attacks in the league. Factor in a weak conference and an even weaker division and the chances for an above .500 season looke pretty good IMO.
The problems on defense can probably be addressed in the offseason. The OL needs some depth, L. Allen is not a spring chicken, Kwain Harris is a back up and your starting LT can't stay healthy. You also need some speed at the WR position, Bryant is probably gone aftertaking the SFPD on a high speed chase down 101.
IMO the Niners could make the playoffs in 07 and could win the division in 08.
