Default Gear break in procedure

Ok I just ordered some 3.92's and an auburn posi, I'm moving up from a 3.55 open diff. I am not too happy about the break in process I have been hearing about to say the least. Have any of you out there said eff it to the break in procedure? Has anyone experienced problems with that? I will take it easy but I am going to the drag strip on feb 9th, do you guys think i'll be ok for 3 passes if I obey the rest of the stuff? So if any of you have driven your trucks like you normally do after a gear change and have been fine, chime in. Oh yeah, I am going to stay away from burnouts and i will drive the first 100-150 miles slowly letting them cool down momentarily. Thanks everyone.

From what I hear its like the first few times you drive you gotta drive for a bit then stop and give time for it all to cool down. Not a lot of driving like ten miles or something short. After that its 500 miles of easy driving by easy no burnouts or dumpin the clutch. I think you could put on 500 miles by feb 9th. I drive just to school which is 7 miles and then 7 back plus 8 to work and 8 back. and put on 500 miles in approx 2 weeks or so.

Mine is a very basic and quick break in I think its ok and would give gears time to set up right. but I may not be totally correct I never worry about it since I baby my new cars and havn't gotten into serious modding at all yet and get the fluids changed in all shortly after 6k miles (except for engine oil which i get at 3k). I figure by that time the gears are all good but from what I hear it doesn't take that long to break gears in. I think the only thing that may be compromised by not giving a long break in time might be long long term longevity. That meaning like 100k + miles. I'm sure that moto will ahve more mods even new diffs to handle all the power that thing will be making by that time

Thanks ben. The thing is, my gears are still in the hands of ups so I think I am going to miss out on the drag strip on the 9th. My drive to school is 5 miles and I work at home so i will put some miles on itjust by driving around. I do plan to do some serious modding once the warranty is gone so i will probably be swapping to a 4.10 or 4.56 by then. My plans are a full stroker 5.7. I want mid 12's all motor, then I will supercharge or turbo the motor. I will be pushin some serious power so i will need a lower gear than 3.92's by then.

Exclty and by the time you'll be doing a stroker and blower and probably some laughy gas lol you'll be in the market for a whole new rear end most likely. The dodge rears are strong but that much power your gonna need something else probably chromoly shafts and since you take it to the track you should look at an electronic selectable locker. for offroad arb air lockers are great but too expensive but for off road the electronics can fail but since you won't be offraoding the electronic selectable keeps your truck good for the street but will also hook up better on the track.

sucks ups hasn't got them to you yet. I havn't had any probs with them so Have hope.
